Introduction of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) - How Scoring are MCQs?
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has released the exam question paper pattern for the CA exams in 2024. According to the new format, the CA-Intermediate exam will have four papers with 30 marks MCQs out of 100 marks. The following papers will have MCQs weighing 30% marks of the total marks in a question paper.
Paper Number | Subject Name | Division of Marks |
Paper-2 | Corporate Law (100 Marks) | 30% Objective (MCQs) 70% Subjective |
Paper-4 | Taxation (100 Marks) | 30% Objective (MCQs) 70% Subjective |
Paper-6 | Auditing and code of ethics (100 Marks) | 30% Objective (MCQs) 70% Subjective |
Paper-7 | Financial management and Strategic Management (100 Marks) | 15% Objective (MCQs) (FM) 35% Subjective 15% Objective (SM) 35% Subjective |
Attempting MCQs might not be more accessible than the subjective questions; as for MCQs, you need to be sure of the correct answer out of the four options. However, if you prepare well and make a few efforts to study 100% of the course to score well in the MCQs, you can be sure of receiving 30 marks out of 100 marks. This helps you boost your confidence and encourages you to clear CA-inter exams more comfortably.
Inclusion of the Case Study-Based MCQs
Generally, a case study is a hypothetical scenario provided to you based on which you need to answer specific questions. No matter what the case study is about, they are provided to test your conceptual clarity. To complete such questions, you should thoroughly read the situation and base your answers on the studied concepts. You may sometimes find that multiple options could be the correct answer, but remember, there is only one right answer. Hence, try to revisit the situation of the case study and then think about the best suitable action in the problem asked in the question.
How Many MCQs Students Should Practice Before Exams
There is no thumb rule about how many questions you should practice before the exams. However, since practice is the key to success, it is always preferable to practice sufficient MCQs to get a hands on to the format and the pattern of such questions. How so many questions you may practice, there will be a new question in the exam. Nevertheless, since you would have practiced well before the exam, it will help you deal with the question in the most convenient way.
How to score good marks in MCQs
- It is always advisable for all the CA-aspirants to go through the question paper format in advance and practice writing answers in the same form.
- When you read the MCQ question, think of the possible answer before jumping directly to reading the four options.
- Have a True and False analysis of all the multiple choices to ensure your correct answer.
- Remember, there is no negative marking system, and hence, make sure to attempt all the questions.
