doubt on charge of depreciation

let's say a truck was purchased on first January 2020. In the next year on July 1st 2021 the truck was met with an accident whose insurance was claimed on 1st of the October 2021. in order to figure out the amount of profit or loss after claiming the insurance , first, we have to calculate the book value of the truck on year 2021. so my doubt is should I calculate the depreciation amount of that truck till the accident date or till I claim the insurance money?
